JJ's Quest for Gourmet Food
One of the biggest memories of the club that I have left with many people is my gourmet backpacking meals. I’d always say, the trip is going to amazing, beautiful waterfalls, great people, and of course great food. I use to sell my trips on the meals I was going to cook up for people.

I remember this one time we hiked 18 miles that day. And we got to the campsite, I told everyone that we were going to cook a five course Indian meal since I absolutely love Indian food.
So, we made naan from scratch, let the dough rise, and grilled it, and then we good saagg (which is the cremed spinache), chicken korma, lentils, and we made that really good yoguit topping(raita).

I was pretty serious about my meals. I mean come on, after a long day backpacking, you need something to look forward to, and for me my motivation was to sit next to the campfire with an amazing gourmet meal overlooking a beautiful vista. Everyone loved my food and I made it worth it for people to care the extra extra weight.

It was such a challenge for me though trying all of my spices into miles of wilderess. So, I created this spice kit, to hold all my spices. I went to REI and got little portable containers, and filled them up. I had 25 spices in the kit. My nick on the trail, “JJ Buffet.” Because I love to eat and I love lots of food outdoors.
