About JJ

JJ at Whitney
Over the last 10 years, JJ has traveled to ends of the world searching for his next BIG ADVENTURE — rappelling into Thailand’s caverns, trekking up Indonesia’s active volcanoes, climbing Alaska’s icy glaciers and icebergs, diving into Belize’s blue hole, exploring Guatemala’s ancient city, Tikal. and kayaking Baja’s deserted islands.
How It Started
JJ’s outdoor leadership kicked off after the UCSB Adventure Programs “Outdoor Leadership” course in 2002. Empowered by this experience, he established the Excursion Club, a student operated organization, to encourage other students to experience their surroundings.

It didn’t take long until fifty plus students engaged in weekly, student lead, kayaking, hiking, mountain biking, sky diving, rock climbing, snow boarding, and backpacking adventures with the Excursion Club. The club continues on to this day. Check out www.excursionclubucsb.org for more information.

Ever since then he’s been taking groups of people into the wilderness to experience our natural world. JJ believes strongly in the philosophy that people must actively experience nature to want to protect it.

JJ says “The most difficult thing as an adventurer is deciding which adventure to do which is why I just does them all now. Why go just kayaking when you can kayak up to a glacier, strap on your crampons, and climb to the summit, only to mid-way descend into an ice cave for the hell of it.”
